We specialise in providing stable housing and intensive support to young people in Out of Home Care, who are transitioning to independent living.

Obtaining approval for a lease with no prior rental history can be tough. As a young person approaching adulthood who has already experienced disadvantage and cannot return safely to their home, getting this approval can be especially challenging.

How It Works

Our services are designed to provide personalised support to young tenants helping them develop essential skills to live independently. Our dedicated caseworkers work closely with each tenant, guiding them through understanding tenant responsibilities, budgeting, and property maintenance. This approach ensures they become responsible and reliable tenants who contribute positively to their communities.

SILS operates over a flexible 24-month period, adapting support levels as young people grow in confidence and proficiency. Our ultimate aim is to empower them to confidently manage their own lease by the program's conclusion, promoting sustainable independence.

Tenants are selected based on their readiness for independent living, often engaged in education, training, or regular employment, fostering stability and personal responsibility. Veritas House assumes the lease, providing landlords with assurance of timely rent and bond payments. We take proactive steps in property maintenance and swiftly address any issues, ensuring landlords enjoy peace of mind throughout the tenancy.

Property owners can opt for either a 6 or 12-month lease, tailored to their preferences and the local real estate market dynamics. Regular reviews maintain the suitability and stability of the arrangement for both parties involved. Our team maintains open lines of communication with landlords and managing agents, ensuring seamless collaboration and swift resolution of any tenancy concerns.

“There’s benefits both sides; the security you get in your rent [and] the fact that you’re giving a kid a chance”. says Aaron. “We see it as; we’ve given these kids a chance to get out of the cycle [of disadvantage]. A lot of them come from violence that you can only imagine. So, it’s peace of mind knowing that there’s a few kids getting a hand; they’re getting education, they’re getting meals and being cared for.”
