As Homelessness Week draws to a close it is important to reflect on some staggering numbers and highlight how far reaching homelessness in in our local community, across the state and nation.

In 2024, on any given day :
• 19.500 clients were being supported by
• 345 specialist homelessness services
• 3,800 of these clients being young people who presented alone
• 5,300 were children in families who were supported.
• 1600 clients spent the night sleeping in crisis accommodation, and;
• 3600 reported having slept rough in the last month

The number of people experiencing homelessness is higher than ever before with the homelessness support sector being severely outstripped by demand for services. There is an acute shortage of support workers and an insufficient supply of social housing for those in need.
