About Youth Homelessness Matters Day

In 2022–23, over 38,000 young people aged 15–24 sought help from homelessness services, with nearly half facing mental health issues and over a third experiencing domestic violence, most needed accommodation. Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD), established in 1990 by Yfoundations, aims to raise awareness and foster public discussions on youth homelessness. Held annually on the third Wednesday of April, this year it falls on April 17. YHMD has evolved into a national celebration of young people’s resilience and serves as a platform for advocating sustainable solutions to support homeless and at-risk youth.

Yfoundations call for the development of a standalone National Child and Youth Homelessness and Housing Plan continues and we encourage everyone to sign their petition.
